Just because some of the old cars are old, there aren't many left. Sometimes, there weren't many made to begin with. Sometimes, a car has a racing history or was owned by somebody famous. All of these things contribute to a classic car's price. Modern SUVs are all over the place. I would guess that an Escalade owned by Brad Pitt could bring a premium, but the one owned by the man down the street would not.

probably for about 5-6 thousand you could go through this car and do whats called a rolling restoration on it and keep it in good driving condition,i use to own a 67 model and wish i had it back that was a fun car to drive,but my dash was in bad condition and i sold it to someone up north, that's not to bad of a price on this car if the condition is good and it doesn't have a lot of exterior rust,no rust would be a real good thing,parts aren't that bad to buy for that car and it sounds like everything their to work with it just needs to be redone,if you do most of the work your self you can save a bundle on doing this one,a good repair manual will help you along with it as you go,good luck with it .

A 1962 ford fairlane is a great classic car, it is also an antique.

They look cool but they were notorious for having a lot of lemons in the fairlane line of cars so be prepared to spend a lot of time working on it.

My favorite is the 66's and 67's but any classic car is cool just based on the fact they had character,the 62's are heavy but there are no limits to the mods you can make on them,have fun with it.

The I-6 is hard to kill, the 221 (and 260) V-8 engines are long lived.
Find a good parts shop, pistons for the 221 are hard to find (had one rebuilt)
A note on engine swaps, the pre 64 (65) V-8 engines have a different bell housing then those after.
